When Does Wordle Reset? The Daily Puzzle Time Explained

If your clock says 11:59 p.m., you are still on today's daily puzzle. When your local date changes to the next day at 12:00 a.m., the next daily Wordle becomes available. You do not need to convert midnight in New York to your own time zone. The important reference is the time zone where you are playing.

For example, someone playing in London and someone playing in Los Angeles reach midnight at different moments. They can briefly be looking at puzzles for different calendar dates even though both are using the official game. This is why a friend abroad may say they have played “tomorrow's Wordle” while your screen still shows today's puzzle. Check the puzzle date before discussing its answer, and avoid posting spoilers to a group whose members have not reached the same local day.

Daylight saving time does not change the simple rule: look for midnight on your local clock. It can change the corresponding time elsewhere in the world, so a memorized conversion to another city's clock is less reliable than checking your own date and time zone.

When is the deadline for today's Wordle?

The release of a new puzzle is also the end of the ordinary daily window for the old one. According to The New York Times' Wordle help page, a puzzle must be solved before midnight local time to be included in your current streak. Finishing after midnight starts a new streak instead. If maintaining a streak matters to you, leave enough time to enter and submit your guesses rather than opening the board in the final minute.

There is an important distinction between opening a puzzle and completing it. A partially filled board is not a finished solve. Likewise, seeing a candidate in a helper is not the same as submitting the answer in the official game. The only result that counts for a daily streak is the completed game recorded by Wordle under its own rules.

If your streak or statistics look wrong, first check that you are signed in to the correct New York Times account. Its help page recommends doing that before reporting a statistics problem through the game's settings or support options. Do not assume that a missing streak proves the daily reset happened at a different hour.

What if the new Wordle has not appeared?

Start with the two things that determine which daily puzzle you expect to see: your local date and your device's time-zone setting. If you travelled, changed your device settings, or are comparing your board with someone elsewhere, confirm that you are talking about the same calendar date. A clock set to the wrong time zone can make “midnight” appear to arrive earlier or later than you expected.

Then reopen or refresh the official Wordle page or Games app and check the puzzle shown there. This is a practical display check, not a way to force a second daily puzzle. If the issue remains, use the feedback or support options in the official game. Changing your clock to chase another day's board is not a reliable way to protect a streak and can make the date mismatch harder to understand.

What can you do while waiting for the next puzzle?

If you have already completed today's Wordle, the next daily puzzle still waits for local midnight. The New York Times also offers a Wordle archive to eligible subscribers, but its help page says archive puzzles do not count toward the current or maximum daily streak. An archive game is a way to practice, not an early release of tomorrow's daily answer.
